Essential Wedding Photography Gear I Used Throughout 2025

Michigan Wedding Photography Gear

Wedding photography gear requires more than just cameras and lenses. Over the course of 2025, there were specific tools I relied on during nearly every wedding day to stay organized, comfortable, and prepared for whatever the timeline or weather brought.

This list includes the gear and everyday essentials I actually used all year. These are not theoretical recommendations or things I tried once. If something is on this list, it earned its place through real wedding days.

Camera Carry and Organization Essentials

Camera Spider Holster

This is one of those purchases that changes how a wedding day feels physically. Having my cameras secure at my hips instead of hanging from my neck makes a huge difference during long days. It keeps my hands free, distributes weight better, and helps me move more naturally during fast moments. My back feels 10x better than when I had a shoulder holster.

SD Cards

Reliable memory cards are essential. I rotate multiple SD cards throughout the day and never rely on a single card. This is one area where reliability matters more than anything else.

SD Card Holder

A dedicated SD card holder keeps used and unused cards clearly separated. It stays with me all day and removes any guesswork when cards are being swapped quickly.

Camera Batteries (NIKON)

I always bring more camera batteries than I expect to need. Wedding days run long, and having backups ensures nothing is missed.

Lighting and Power Tools

Godox V100 Flash with Dome Diffuser (NIKON)

This flash is a staple for receptions and low light environments. The dome diffuser softens light beautifully and keeps skin tones natural without harsh shadows.

Double AA Batteries

Flashes go through batteries quickly. If you want to upgrade, I recommend rechargeable batteries. They are more cost effective long term and easier to manage during busy seasons.

Lenses I Use the Most

24 to 70mm Lens

This is my most used lens. It is versatile enough for getting ready moments, portraits, and candids throughout the day. It was such a game changer last year that it now stays on my camera 99% of the time.

70 to 200mm Lens

I rely on this lens for ceremonies and emotional moments where I want to remain unobtrusive. It allows me to document moments without interrupting them.

$30 Film Lens

I love bringing in a film lens when the light and pace allow for it. It adds character and softness that feels timeless and intentional. During the open dance floor part of receptions, they look more point and shoot than film! Not a bad thing at all, just gives more variety to your galleries!

Weather Protection

Pelican Rolling Case

This case is one of the best investments I have made. This case protects my equipment during travel and makes moving through venues much easier. It keeps everything organized and secure during long wedding days.

Camera Rain Cover

Michigan weather is unpredictable. A waterproof camera cover has allowed me to keep shooting comfortably in rain and snow without worrying about my gear.

Tools That Make Long Days More Comfortable

Neck Fan

Wedding days can be hot, especially during summer ceremonies. A neck fan is lightweight, discreet, and incredibly helpful during outdoor weddings.

Apple Air Tags

I keep these in my camera bag and cases so I always know where my gear is. It is a small thing that adds a lot of peace of mind when traveling or moving between locations.

Apple Watch

I use my watch constantly throughout the day to keep an eye on time without pulling out my phone. It helps me stay aware of the timeline while staying present.

Phone and Creative Extras

Octobuddy for My Phone

This little tool lets me mount my phone quickly on mirrors or walls for behind the scenes content. It is easy to use and surprisingly sturdy.

Photo Holder for Polaroid Prints

I love having a dedicated holder for Polaroids throughout the day. It keeps prints safe and organized and makes it easy to hand them off later.

DJI Mini 4 Pro Drone

I use this selectively for venue shots and ceremony spaces when allowed. It is compact, easy to travel with, and produces beautiful aerial images.

Two Terabyte Lexar Magnetic Hard Drive

This magnetic hard drive attaches to the back of my phone and gives me extra storage throughout the wedding day. It has been incredibly helpful for backing up files quickly while on location.

Why I Share My Wedding Photography Gear

I get asked about my wedding photography gear and workflow often, both by couples and other photographers. This list is not about having the most expensive setup or buying everything at once. It is about finding tools that support you, make your days easier, and help you stay present during important moments.

If something earns a place in my bag year after year, it is because it has proven itself.
